Olympic Weightlifting

An athletic discipline which is contested in the Summer Olympics in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates. The two competition lifts in order are the snatch and the clean and jerk.

In comparison with other strength sports, which test limit strength, Olympic weightlifting tests aspects of human ballistic limits (explosive strength); the lifts are therefore executed faster—and with more mobility and a greater range of motion during their execution – than other strength movements. Properly executed, the snatch and the clean and jerk are both dynamic and explosive while appearing graceful, especially when viewed from a recording at a slowed speed. We like to think of the Olympic Lifts as Gymnastics with a barbell.

Powerlifting

is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves lifting weights in three attempts. Unlike Weightlifting, power lifting is not contested in the Olympics. There are multiple Powerlifting Federations in which to compete if our athletes choose to do so.

Team

Our Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting teams compete locally and nationally. Our Club is home to a Master’s Pan Am Champion and World Record Holder, a two time Youth Silver Medalist (Gold in Clean & Jerk), and several nationally ranked Weightlifters and Coaches.

Our programs are highly specialized and cater to the athlete’s individual needs.

Coached Sessions are:

Mornings: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5-7am, Saturdays 8-10am
Evenings: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:00-6:30PM
Tuesdays: 5:15-6:30PM
