What brought me to CrossFit in the first place was actually a complete surprise to me. I came home from work one night and my husband Mike announced that he signed us up for a six week CrossFit challenge. I’m sure my face was priceless, I knew nothing about CrossFit other then the videos I’ve seen on Facebook or you tube, which looked pretty intimidating.

My first impression was one of trepidation and uncertainty. I was over weight, unhealthy and had no idea on what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised after my first week of the challenge, I was sore all over but had survived. The coaches were amazing, positive, motivational and still are to this day. My view has completely changed from that first day of class to now. That scary feeling of uncertainty has turned to confidence and I believe I’m a better happier person because of CrossFit.

I remember my first bright spot so clearly! It was sit-ups. I haven’t been able to do a full sit-up since middle school. I remember seeing on the board that they were part of the workout for the day (this was towards the end of the six weeks). When that portion of the workout came up I tried my hardest to do an actual full sit-up and then it just happened. I was so excited and surprised that I just stopped mid work out and started laughing! Best first bright spot ever!

What I’m working towards now are a few different goals, pull-ups being one of them. Form is always an important part for me as well because I want to be able to do CrossFit for as long as I can, hopefully till I’m 90-something!

I have so many great memories from CutThroat, it’s hard to pick my favorite. I’ve enjoyed so many moments here with coaches and classmates. The most recent one that stands out for me is my 30” box jump. It was scary because the box is almost as big as I am (I’m only 4’11”) and trying to jump proficiently on top of it is hard. I did it and I had so many classmates and coaches cheering me on it was a really great feeling.
